On May 10, 2018, Corporations Canada announced that for new Federal corporations that are newly incorporated, such as Federal non-profit corporations under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (CNCA), Corporations Canada would be providing the Canada Revenue Agency Business Number (BN) immediately after incorporation by email.
Prior to this change, CNCA and other corporations were established and you received Articles of Incorporation and your corporate number but not the BN number from CRA. CRA would mail out the BN number and you would receive it weeks later. This change by Corporations Canada will speed up the receipt of the BN number and will be welcomed by newly incorporated Federal corporations.
Here is the announcement from Corporations Canada of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada:
Corporations Canada to share valuable information post-incorporation
On May 10, 2018, Corporations Canada will introduce a new and faster way to provide new federally-incorporated corporations with their business number. The newly-incorporated corporation will receive by email, in addition to its business number, a series of helpful hyperlinks. These links lead to information related to the “next steps” following incorporation, tools and resources, as well as information on the corporation's legal obligations. This new practice is being implemented in partnership with the Canada Revenue Agency and Innovation Canada at Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.
