Corporations Canada is looking at changing their fees in relation to the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (CNCA) as well as some other acts.  Some of the most common fees like filing the annual return will be reduced and others will be increased significantly. Some fees will be eliminated completely.  Here is the full proposal for consultation.   In general it is a fair proposal - encouraging people to move to electronic, making some most commonly done transactions cheaper and reflecting the real cost of certain other transactions.

Some of the highlights under the CNCA in terms of reductions in costs:

I am very pleasantly surprised by the change to provide online copies of documents for free.  This will remove one impediment to organizations having copies of documents.  At the moment you can view any CNCA corporation at the Corporations Canada website and order documents (it takes about 2 minutes to get the documents delivered by email) and they generally charge about $1 per page which is not much for some but probably an impediment for others.  Some like journalists will be very happy with this change.

There will be increases in some non-electronic filing and also:

Furthermore, Corporations Canada is proposing having an expedited service.   Instead of a turn around for an incorporation being one day, if you pay an extra $100, you can have it in 4 hours.  Not sure if that is really necessary as the CNCA is already so quick but I guess if people want to pay extra then they might as well charge for it.
