In light of the COVID-19 crisis and the need for social distancing, CRA has announced that it will temporarily be accepting electronic signatures. See the full text of CRA’s announcement below:

Electronic signatures: CRA and COVID-19

Effective immediately, CRA will recognize electronic signatures as having met the signature requirements of the Income Tax Act. This temporary measure will reduce the necessity for taxpayers and tax preparers to meet in person and will reduce administrative burden during this difficult time.

This provision applies to authorization forms T183 or T183CORP, which are forms that are signed in person by millions of Canadians every year to authorize tax preparers to file taxes.
