CRA recently released two new online registered charity information request forms which have been created to simplify the process when requesting certain types of information from CRA.  Previously this information was typically requested by sending a letter/fax to CRA.  Now it can be done online.  This is a giant step forward in making it easier for Canadians to be able to access public information from the CRA's Charities Directorate on Canadian registered charities.

Charities Listing Request form –  this form is for requests regarding T3010 Registered Charity Information Return – you can select whether you want nation-wide or within even a province or city.   You can tailor your request to certain types of charities and whether you want only registered charities, RCAAAs or also revoked charities.  The T3010 is one of the richest sources of information on Canadian charities and it is under-utilized by the sector.

Request for registered charity information – this form allows requests to be made for information on a registered charity that is not provided in the 'Charities Listings' section of the CRA webpage.  This allows you to request online documents such as the Charity's Application to Register a Charity Under the Income Tax Act, Governing documents, Notification of registration, Letters relating to the grounds for revocation, Financial statements – Most recently filed or for other years.

It is important to note that any confidential information regarding a registered charity will only be provided to an authorized representative of the charity that is on record with CRA.  However, all publicly accessible information regarding a registered charity will be available by request using this form.
