Here is an article by Vancouver Sun reporter David Baines on a BC charity and its revocation by CRA. http://www.vancouversun.com/health/butts+stop+smoking+charity/4821852/story.html
Here is the CRA summary on their website:
“Summary of Reasons for Revocation – R.E.W.A.R.D.S. FOUNDATION
Based on the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) audit of the Charity, the Charity operates primarily for the purpose of providing undue benefits to its director, has failed to demonstrate that it operates as a charitable organization devoting all its resources to charitable activities carried on by the organization itself and the core program promoted by the Charity involves the improper issuance of tax receipts for transactions that do not qualify as gifts under the Act.”
You can find on the CRA website http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/ebci/haip/srch/advancedsearch-eng.action information on this revoked charity as well as 85,000 other charities.
David Baines in his article provides a lot more information on the alleged problems with the R.E.W.A.R.D.S. FOUNDATION.
