The recent terrorist attacks in Quebec and Ottawa are a reminder of the impact of terrorism. Canadian charities are an important part of Canadian society and it is important that they protect their employees, volunteers, and other resources from terrorist abuse.
A reminder that CRA has published a checklist on avoiding terrorist abuse. In the past many have conflated terrorism with “foreign activities”. Quite clearly terrorism can happen anywhere and Canadian charities should be paying attention.
It appears that in the past a number of terrorist incidents have been thwarted by information and assistance from Canadian charities, especially religious charities concerned about the distortion of their religion by some fanatics.
If you have information about a terrorist incident or suspected links to terrorism you can report them to the RCMP's National Security Information Line, 1-800-420-5805, or see the website for National Security Information Network.
