I will be presenting in Vancouver a full day presentation on charity law and compliance for registered charities on November 6, 2012. It is being put on by CoDevelopment Canada & BCCIC and it is entitled “Charity Law 101”. Just completed a similar session at Carleton University in Ottawa and it went really well.

Here is the description:
Charity Law 101
Join CoDevelopment Canada & BCCIC at a workshop presented by Mark Blumberg, a partner at the law firm Blumberg Segal LLP in Toronto, who works almost exclusively with Canadian non-profits and registered charities on compliance issues. This one-day workshop will ask questions that all charities (or potential charities) should consider: What are we trying to accomplish? Should we incorporate? Should we be a charity? What is the difference between a for-profit, non-profit and registered charity?
The session will cover matters that are significant for any operating charity surrounding revenue generation rules, receipting, transparency, and protecting your charity against risks. Topical issues such as collaboration, foreign activities, political activities and the new Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act will be touched upon as well.
