The CRA’s Charities Directorate is currently closed, however, registered charities can still access online services through what we affectionately call the CHAMP system but CRA now refers to as “Digital Services for Charities through the MyBA portal”.  While registered charities may not have previously accessed this system, which launched June 2019, now may be a good time to look into the new system. The Canadian Charity Law Association has hosted a webinar on how to register and use these digital services on Tuesday, April 14 and the link to the recorded webinar is accessible below:

Here is more detailed information for the webinar:

This webinar of the Canadian Charity Law Association (CCLA) will focus on how CRA’s new CHAMP online system can be useful for registered charities, especially in this crisis. Whereas some registered charities may have held off using the new online system, with the Charities Directorate closed, it now makes more sense and is perhaps the best way to submit information or to make changes with the Charities Directorate.

This webinar will be led by Maddy Sawyer and Mark Blumberg, who are non-profit and charity lawyers at Blumberg Segal LLP in Toronto. We will be joined by one or more Charities Directorate staff who will be available during the webinar to answer questions on the CHAMP system. There is no cost for joining this CCLA webinar.

The presentation will try to cover:

  • Update on some recent changes for registered charities during the COVID-19 crisis;
  • Background on the CHAMP system including My CRA and MyBA;
  • How to gain access to the system;
  • Authorizing representatives;
  • The Business Registration Online system (BRO) and charity applications (which are still being processed);
  • Preparing and filing your T3010 Registered Charity Information Return online;
  • Making changes to your charity information with CRA;
  • Resources; and
  • Q&A with CRA
