CRA recently released a short video on who is the true donor. These and other short videos are helpful for charities but nothing replaces real in person programs. Unfortunately, CRA has stopped their popular Charities Information Sessions (which were called “Road Shows”) and CRA no longer funds registered charities under the CPOP program to provide compliance training to registered charities.
In short the opportunities for real educational programs relating to compliance and financial management are limited. Hopefully one day CRA will get back into the real education arena. Not everything can be done by toll free numbers, occasional Twitter posts, short videos and super boring and technical guidance documents. At Blumbergs we try to provide some charity compliance programs but we are only doing a few per year and they are mainly in the GTA. If you want more Road Shows let CRA know.
