Providing official donation receipts is one of the most important reasons that organizations want to be a “registered charity”.  Only issuing receipts properly is also one of the top compliance issues for Canadian registered charities.   You might find the following resources helpful:

  1. Copy of the “Receipting Kit” prepared by Blumbergs.
  2. Blumbergs page on receipting by Canadian registered charities:
  3. Receipting Checklist on the Charities Directorate website.

We also occasionally, about once per year, have a workshop entitled Fundamentals of Receipting by Canadian Charities, which is a 3-hour explanation of issuing official donations receipts and some of the complexities with gifts, advantage etc.

If you are concerned about receipting issues for your Canadian charities you might wish to contact Blumbergs to retain us to assist with your issue.
